Vittore Frattini | 1987

Vittore Frattini was born in Varese in 1937 and was introduced to the world of art thanks to his father Angelo who was a sculptor. His poetics grow together with his exhibition experiences becoming more and more precise and essential in fact, his exhibitions are held in the main artistic centers such as the 'Quadriennale di Roma', the events related to the San Fedele prize and the National 'Bienniale di Milano'. The painter does not even neglect the study and comparison with the other painters and naturally makes strong friendships with artists like Guttuso, who will also present his anthological exhibition, Scanavino and international personalities such as Graham Sutherland. It is also known the great friendship with the collector Giuseppe Panza who strongly supported the project for the construction of the museum of his collection. The following words are taken from an essay by the collector who managed to read the man and the artist so well. The image that strikes me most in Frattini’s work is his use of lines – the main element seen in his development. Already in the ’70s lines appeared fundamental to his painting, where they integrated a very emotive and rapid sign with complications that convey a certain state of anxiety, which was the basis of this type of art at the time. In the ’80s the value of the lines became even more basic and were certainly the essential elements in his painting. In developing this topic, consistency is the aspect that interests me the most because it is difficult to succeed in maintaining consistency for a long period of time. Many artists have a period of great creativity which soon disappears. By changing direction or mode of expression, they fail to maintain the same level of quality. Therefore, I admire and respect the few who have shown consistency and are faithful to a fundamental choice (...) Vittore Frattini

Italian, b. 1937

Vittore Frattini is an Italian sculptor and painter whose abstract works frequently display his signature multicolor, wavy lines. After graduating high school, he studied at the Brera Academy in Milan and presented his first solo exhibition in 1957. His early paintings are characterized by exaggerated brushstrokes and muted colors, while his later works usually feature colorful lines slashed against a solid background. Like his father, Frattini also works in sculpture, creating glass and metallic works that incorporate multicolored linework. His expansive oeuvre has been exhibited in numerous museums, including the Museo della Permanente in Milan, the Atelier Donati in Zürich, and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
